WIP Zines

CAWL - Soup//Mess.

Information inclined to inching.
Stuttering haptics.
Made by hand.

As a way of exploring ideas, the act of writing, collaging found materials and sharing work, zinemaking has been a part of my practice for over a decade. Each bottle of NATURAL INK. is sold and shared with a 12-page A4 zine, made using botanical inks, a typewriter and some card and copied.

I am currently growing a Personal Archive of zines, typewritten pieces and collages.

Over the past five+ years, I have been attempting to move further away from social media as the platform for sharing work in order to support my nervous system and creativity. As part of my Arts Council Wales Creative Steps Grant 2025-2026, I have been making zines. Without the pressure or demand to share digitally with a faceless public, these zines have sometimes been shared with others in person, one-to-one. My old Brother Deluxe 800 typewriter is how I write. Embracing a loud, slow, mechanical and glitchy form of expression. No drafting, just writing.

This series of CAWL zines is kept in a box and shared when it feels good to share. First and foremost, an act of self-listening and thread gathering without needing to verbalise and make sense too soon.
