Hello, I’m Karn.

✺ Welcome to my website ✺

I have a brain wired for depth and making connections, which means that my creative practice is all about relationships; the relationship that I have with my direct experience and questioning the narratives that we live within, for better and worse, and how things respond to and affect each other. This is rooted in seasonal and cyclic awareness and systems thinking, and my work manifests in the world in a variety of forms: seasonal research, making colour from found and foraged plants, earth and metals, land-based ritual and performance, printmaking, writing, zine making and textile making.

I am also an experienced workshop facilitator and teacher, an artist mentor and a recently qualified coach. I work with artists, creative and community-centred folks whose work is rooted in tending a better world into being, for themselves, the collective and the other-than-human. With a strong practice in cyclic and seasonal awareness, I hold space for action focused on upward growth as well as dying back, rest and renewal, centring the full range of human experience.

I have been running The NATURAL INK. Project over the last 7 years. Through the last three years, I have been awarded two Arts Council Wales Creative Steps grants to support professional development, as well as the A-N Artist Bursary. I have had the pleasure of working on a year-long group project with On Your Face Collective and as part of the artist steering and facilitation group with SPAN ArtsQueer Creations project.

I am currently based in and around Pembrokeshire, West Wales, offering 1-to-1 sessions in person and over the phone/via Zoom, and welcome invitations to run small group workshops. Please see Offerings and get in touch for more details.

As a white Welsh, queer, nonbinary, mixed-class, university-educated, neurodivergent human in their perimenopausal years, I am currently making work in and from The Messy Middle, exploring lived experience and its relationship with systems built and not built for me. I am a long-time student and practitioner of Buddhism and a more recent reconnector to land-based, animist and Welsh Celtic traditions.

After building a working life as an artist educator and arts and health facilitator in my 20s, over the last 12 years, I have been living a more wayfaring life, exploring community living in Wales and the South West. Throughout this time, I have learned alongside experienced artists and land-based community workers, living in annexes, spare rooms, a shepherd's hut, a wagon, huts and attics, tents, and my own roaming vans. A deep longing and curiosity about how to live a life fully, within the ebb and flow of nature's seasons and my own creative cycles as a neurodivergent and cyclic human, has grown me an interesting and, some might see, alternative life.

This determination to challenge the oppressive systems that we live within, and their narratives of supposed ‘civility’, has been born in the fires of deep personal and collective grief. I want to know what it is to live in relationship with the human and other-than-human around me with care and integrity. To quote someone I encountered recently, “I don’t know what I am doing, but I know I want to live.” In a world of numbing and distraction and overwhelm that I too naturally fall into for short and long periods of time, I am constantly reflecting on this. It is how I listen and hold space for others through mentoring, coaching and facilitation, and how I make work.

This about me page, website, and my practice are works in progress, honouring a constant act of becoming and belonging. Thanks for being here with me.
